An orthotic is a pad to prevent pressure on a specific part of the foot or to prevent
abnormal movement of the foot. Orthotics can be used to treat a variety of foot and ankle
problems. The most effective type of orthotics is custom-made. A mold or impression is made
of the foot held by Dr. Dustin in the corrected position. The insert is made from the
impression to treat your specific foot problem. One common problem with orthotics is
that they take up room inside your shoe. Sometimes this will require new shoes, although
removing your shoe's lining may gain you the needed space. Allow yourself some time to
get used to your new orthotics. They should not be worn for more than a few hours a day,
at first. You can increase the time as your foot makes adjustments to the device. There
are many variations and customizations that Dr. Dustin can make to personalize your
orthotics to your specific foot type and shoe gear needs.
