Sharp pain, stiffness or aching on the bottom of the heel is a very common ailment.
The pain is often at its peak with the first steps in the morning or after a period of rest.
The discomfort may induce limping for a few minutes before a comfortable stride can be attained.
As weight continues to be applied during walking or standing, mild or severe pain may persist.
Heel pain originates deep within the foot. Several layers of fatty tissue surround the heel bone,
softening the impact of walking and protecting the muscles and bones. Beneath this padding, a
fibrous band of connective tissue called the plantar fascia extends from the heel bone, supports the
arch and reaches across to the ball of the foot. Pain can result when these tissues become inflamed,
or when small spurs grow on the heel bone. Other causes of heel pain are gout, arthritis, psoriasis,
nerve injuries, bone abnormalities, and tumors. Dr. Dustin has many treatment options that may end your
heel pain.
